Sexyy Red Endorses Kamala Harris After Public Support for Donald Trump
Just over a year ago, Sexyy Red publicly supported Donald Trump in an interview, citing an unfortunate truth about how pandemic-era loans changed how he was perceived within the Black community. Still, when it came time to get in the booth this week for the 2024 presidential election, Sexyy Red revealed that she cast her vote for Kamala Harris.
“I just voted!!! Don’t tell us what to do with our coochies!! #Kamala4President,” the St. Louis rapper wrote on X (formerly Twitter). The post was accompanied by two photos of Sexyy Red with “I Just Voted” stickers placed on the front and back of her sweatsuit.
Back in 2023, she offered insight into a particular perception of Trump, saying: “They support him in the hood. At first, I don’t think people was fucking with him. They thought he was racist, saying little shit against women. But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Awe, baby, we love Trump. We need him back in office.” Then, earlier this year, Sexyy Red performed at the Governor’s Ball Music Festival in New York with a giant inflatable red hat that read “Make America Sexyy Again” taking up a large section of the stage.
After her performance, she announced on X that she wouldn’t be publicly supporting any candidates in the election. “It’s Sexyy Red 4 President 🇺🇸 I’m my own candidate I’m not endorsing anybody period,” she said. At the time, Joe Biden was still running for re-election. A few weeks later, the rapper shut down false reports that she had been booked to perform at a Trump rally in Atlanta.
Sexyy Red joins the growing list of rappers who have publicly voiced their support for Harris, including Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Jon, Common, and Quavo. Other artists who have sided with the VP include Beyoncé, Cher, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Lizzo, Jennifer Lopez, Los Tigres del Norte, and more.
