The Kiss store on Amazon has unveiled an official Ace Frehley T-shirt that celebrates the group’s late guitarist and original “Spaceman.”
Released as part of the official Kiss merch kollection, the unisex tee features the iconic cover art from Frehley’s self-titled debut album, released in September 1978. Created by painter Eraldo Carugati, who worked on all four of Kiss’ solo albums, the portrait-style print sits front and center on the shirt, under the iconic Kiss logo and Frehley’s name, displayed in the official Kiss font.
The Ace Frehley T-shirt is made from 100% cotton with a classic fit, double-needle sleeve and subtle bottom hem. The tee is available in black or navy blue, and in unisex sizes small to 6X.
Ace Frehley (the album) was one of four Kiss solo albums released on September 18, 1978 by Casablanca records, alongside Peter Criss, Paul Stanley, and Gene Simmons. Ace Frehley spawned the hit single “New York Groove,” and debuted at number 26 on the Billboard album charts, just a few spots below Gene Simmons’ debut.
Amazon’s Kiss merch store also has this vintage-inspired T-shirt from the band’s 1977 “Love Gun Tour.” This was famously the first tour where Frehley sang lead vocals on a handful of songs, in addition to his guitar duties. See colors and sizes here.
Frehley chronicled his wild life with Kiss in his 2012 book, “No Regrets: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Memoir.” The book offered a behind-the-scenes (or behind-the-makeup) look at Frehley’s early beginnings with the band, including his input into the famous lightning bolt design and the group outfits. He also opens up about how divisions among group members and mounting tensions within the band led to his turbulent departure in 1982, only for him to return triumphantly a decade later to reunite with his musical brothers.
As publisher MTV Books writes, “This is Ace Frehley. No makeup. No apologies. No regrets.”
Fans are also remembering Frehley by picking up the musician’s merch online. Amazon also has a limited-edition Spaceman Funko Pop collectible available, standing just under four inches in height. As expected, these pieces are selling quickly following the rocker’s death.
Frehley was part of Kiss from the band’s inception in 1973 and he returned for their reunion shows in the Nineties. The New York native died Thursday in Morristown, New Jersey. He was 74.
