Travis Kelce Reacts to Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl Loss

Travis Kelce is dissecting the Kansas City Chiefs’ poor performance at Super Bowl LIX.
A somber Kelce, 35, spoke to reporters in the Chiefs’ locker room following the Sunday, February 9, game at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, admitting that the Philadelphia Eagles were the better team.
“Hats off to the Eagles, man. They got after us. All three phases,” the Chiefs tight end said, per footage shared via X.
Asked what went wrong with the Chiefs’ game Sunday, Kelce said, “Couldn’t get it going offensively. They just got after us on all three phases, and on top of that, turnovers, penalties, playing behind the sticks on offense … dropped passes, not taking advantage of the play call and executing them. There’s a lot that goes into it. You don’t lose like that without everything going bad.”

“We haven’t played that bad all year,” Kelce later admitted. “[We] just couldn’t find that spark, couldn’t find that momentum.”
As for the future, “This team is gonna fight till the end forever. We’re always gonna fight,” Kelce said, revealing the words of wisdom coach Andy Reid shared with the team after their loss.
“This one’s gonna hurt,” he quoted Reid as saying. “Let it hurt and figure out how to get better because of it.”
The Eagles thwarted the Chiefs from securing their third consecutive Super Bowl victory Sunday in a 40-22 upset.
Sunday’s game was the worst statistical Super Bowl of Kelce’s career. The tight end had only four catches for 39 yards in the Chiefs’ loss to the Eagles. The future Hall of Famer had never caught fewer than six passes in his four previous Super Bowl appearances.
In last year’s Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Kelce had nine receptions for 93 yards. When the Chiefs played the Eagles in the 2023 Super Bowl, Kelce caught six passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. He had 10 catches for 133 yards against the Buccaneers in 2021 and six catches for 43 yards and one touchdown against the 49ers in 2020.
The Super Bowl marked the end of a statistically down year for Kelce, who had regular season career lows in both receiving yards (823) and touchdowns (3).
Despite the loss, Kelce was cheered on at the Super Bowl by pop star girlfriend Taylor Swift for the second year in a row. Swift, also 35, was joined by friends including Ice Spice and the Haim sisters.
