SZA on Mac Miller on Posthumous ‘Balloonerism’: ‘I Miss My Friend’

The singer is featured on the album track “DJ’s Chord Organ”
SZA shared a bittersweet tribute to Mac Miller as the rapper’s posthumous Balloonerism released on Friday, with the singer encouraging her fans to listen to the new record as well.
“I love my friend I miss my friend,” SZA tweeted on Friday. “Grateful he saw something in me before most and treated me w love from day 1. Wish he could see how right ab everything he truly was. Please go stream Balloonerism RIGHT NOW.”
SZA, who recently released Lana, the deluxe version of SOS, is featured on Balloonerism on the track “DJ’s Chord Organ.” She and Miller were close, and SZA penned an emotional tribute on her instagram when he died back in 2018.
“You were the first person I met when I moved here. U let me come over everyday and be whoever I wanted. Showed up for me in ways I can never express or repay. my gratitude is infinite,” she wrote at the time. “I’ll never let you dim in my mind or spirit.”
Balloonerism is Miller’s second posthumous album, following 2020’s Circles. Miller recorded the album back in 2014, and as his estate said in November, he’d long wanted to get the album released.
“We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist,” Miller’s estate said in a statement. “Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world.”
