See Charli XCX Pick Some Film Favorites in Criterion Collection Closet

The Moment star and self-proclaimed David Cronenberg stan also selects movies by Antonioni, Rivette, and Bergman
Charli XCX lived out every film lover’s dream as the singer entered the Criterion Collection’s closet to spotlight some of her favorite movies.
The Moment star — an avid cinephile with a frequently updated Letterboxd account — entered the Criterion Closet with tote bag in hand to pick out a handful of cinematic classics, beginning with Jacques Rivette’s Celine and Julie Go Boating.
“This was kind of the first, actually the second film that I saw that truly, truly blew my mind,” Charli XCX said of the 1974 French film. “Kind of left me jaw on the floor. The first was 2001.”
Charli XCX, a self-proclaimed “big [David] Cronenberg stan,” next selected the Canadian filmmaker’s most recent movie The Shrouds. “I was on tour when I saw this film. I kind of like to watch films to escape how repetitive life on the road is,” the singer said, adding that while she was “confused” by The Shrouds after her first viewing, she “haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.”
Her third pick was Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1961 drama La Notte, which she fittingly watched while honeymooning near Sicily, and topped off her bag with Ingmar Bergman’s Autumn Sonata.
“I have an affinity for a lot of Swedish things, whether that be Robyn and Yung Lean, whether that be the little red Swedish fish candy, or whether that be Bergman,” she said.
Charli XCX’s love of movies brought the singer to the big screen and specifically to this year’s Sundance Film Festival, as she appeared in three movies that premiered at the fest: Her own The Moment, I Want Your Sex, and The Gallerist.
