Rosie O’Donnell Praises Rachel Zegler’s Stunning Performance In Evita

Rosie kept her Instagram account open to gush over 24-year-old Rachel Zegler‘s portrayal of Eva Perón within the London production of ‘Evita.’ O’Donnell posted a photo of Zegler set among bunches of red roses. Standing in stark contrast to the flashy crimson roses, Zegler’s black shimmering costume was speaking an elegant yet confident language. The poised carrying of Zegler, generously basking in glamour, was a perfect match for O’Donnell’s celebratory caption, which said that Zegler “was slaying all of London.”

Soon after, the comments section began to fill with admirers echoing O’Donnell’s sentiments. One user wrote, “Agree! Granted, I haven’t seen Evita obviously, but even though I haven’t seen it, I have no doubt that Rachel was amazing.” Then went on to cite early career breakthrough: “If the world’s greatest filmmaker ever, Steven Spielberg, sees something in you and casts you in your first feature film, you made it.” Indeed the fact that it was Spielberg himself who saw Zegler fit to be the star of his very first movie is really quite telling!”
The following comment was practically dripping with anticipation: “I’m in London on Tuesday, I hope she’s performing!!!!” Confirmation of such anticipation would surely have been real-time kudos to Zegler’s performance. While reminiscing about her escapades, another theater freak mused, “I really enjoyed her in Romeo + Juliet… which is saying a lot when Kit Connor is sharing the stage.” A subtle compliment toward Zegler being able to hold her own against seasoned talent.
Not everyone fell squarely on the positive side of the spectrum, a skeptic rebutted, “Isn’t this the woke Snow White?!” in reference to the much-debated forthcoming Zegler and Disney collaboration. But most were in full-on agreement, another one goading O’Donnell: “Don’t forget about our other Evita superstar 😏😏 @madonna”. This was a cheeky nod at the now-iconic portrayal of Eva Perón by Madonna in the 1996 film.
Moments of lively discussion were influenced by production elements as a curious audience member enquired, “Thoughts on the exterior balcony scene? I heard some ticket holders were upset about that. I personally think it’s genius.” Whatever the case with the production complaints, the talk of ‘Evita’ was alive and well.
From ‘West Side Story,’ Zegler’s meteoric ascendance has continued to prove her range. From Shakespearean adaptations to Andrew Lloyd Webber classics, she is carving out a place for herself as one of Hollywood’s brightest emerging talents. Should industry veterans like Rosie O’Donnell praise her as they do, then her stardom can only flourish.

The one thing clear from night after night of opening in London is that Rachel Zegler not only plays Eva Perón, she owns it. And judging from the react online, the audience is all in.
