'Paradise' Finale Kills Main Character in Surprise Twist After Alex Reveal

The season 2 finale of Paradise answered some big questions — including revealing Alex’s true identity — and killed off some main characters.

During the Monday, March 30, episode of the hit Hulu series, Alex was revealed to be a quantum AI-powered supercomputer that was becoming too powerful and needed to be shut down. The bigger priority was instating an exodus from the bunker, which was an evacuation protocol to get everyone out in the event of a critical emergency as the place started to melt down.

Xavier (Sterling K. Brown) was able to save everyone while Sinatra (Julianne Nicholson) stayed behind to go down with her creation. She did fill in Xavier on the fact that there is a second bunker 100 miles away in the Denver airport. It also came out that there’s a second timeline already created by Alex that has started to bleed into their reality.

Paradise, which premiered in January 2025, initially appeared to be set in a serene and wealthy community forced to face the realities of a shocking murder. But Dan Fogelman‘s political thriller featured a twist when Paradise was revealed to be an underground bunker housing the world’s most prominent individuals after an apocalyptic event destroyed the rest of humanity.

The cast previously spoke to Us Weekly exclusively about how they kept the show a secret before its premiere.

“The biggest lengths [we had to go through to keep the twist secret] are happening now when we’re actually talking to people about it,” Julianne Nicholson shared at the time. “When we were on set, everybody knows what’s up, so we don’t have to be that secretive.”

She continued: “But now the trick is how do you grab people’s attention and assure them that this is something different without giving away any of the details? But we’re very excited for people to get on the ride with us.”

Brown, meanwhile, recently reflected on holding onto so much information about the show.

“I like knowing [what will happen on my projects]. But I feel like it’s a question you only ask in TV. Because if you’re doing a film or play, you know the beginning, the middle and the end,” he told Us in February. “The idea that you don’t have to know or have it spoiled for you … it is also like I get a chance to help craft the arc of where it ultimately goes to. So I don’t mind knowing.”

While Paradise has been renewed for season 3, executive producer John Hoberg hinted to The Hollywood Reporter in February that the Hulu series would end soon.

“We know what the end is, and it’s an end that would make it very difficult to make a season 4 come afterward,” he said while noting that Fogelman conceived Paradise with a three-season arc.

“We knew we were in the bunker season 1, and we knew we were going out and Xavier was going to look for his wife in season 2,” he explained. “We also knew that we were headed for a collision of two different worlds. So when you have that beginning and you know where you’re swimming to, you know the high points.”

Paradise is currently streaming on Hulu.
