Michelada Fest Canceled Over Artist Visa ‘Uncertainty’ Under Trump

Michelada Fest is canceling its 2025 edition. On Tuesday, the Chicago-based festival, scheduled for mid-July, announced it will not go forward with its event due to visa issues affecting Mexican corrido artists under the Trump administration.

“Due to the uncertainty surrounding artist visas and the rapidly changing political climate, we’re no longer able to guarantee the full experience we had dreamed up for you with all your favorite artists,” the festival’s official statement read. “Although we tried to push through, it became clear that we wouldn’t be able to deliver the full lineup as planned.”

“Your trust, time, and hard-earned dollars mean everything to us, and we believe in giving you the experience you deserve,” the statement continued. “This was not an easy decision for us to make. For seven years, we’ve poured everything into this festival to create something truly special for our community.”

Danny Ocean, Anitta, Grupo Firme, and Netón Vega were scheduled to headline the festival, which also featured Los Alegres del Barranco, the band whose visa was revoked over their depiction of a cartel leader during a Mexico concert. Several corrido acts, including Luis R. Conirquez and Codiciadio, were also on the lineup.

Those with tickets will receive refunds from the fest’s website and Ticketon within 7 to 20 business days. Most refunds will go back to the original form of payment.

“We’re heartbroken by the greater impact this will have on our involved community, with ripple effects reaching our neighborhoods, local economy, and the culture we’ve built together,” the fest wrote. “But despite this setback, we remain committed to our values. Michelada Fest will always be a safe place where our community comes together, united by pride and love of our culture and music. That won’t ever change.”

The organization signed its statement: “We’re already dreaming up what’s next. iNos vemos pronto!”

Last year, Kali Uchis and Junior H headlined the festival, which also featured Los Angeles Azules, Jasiel Nuñez, Ryan Castro, and Santa Fe Klan.
