Macklemore’s ‘F-cked Up’ Calls Out Societal Ills

Proceeds from his latest protest song will go to a UN agency providing relief to Palestinian refugees.
Macklemore released “Fucked Up” on Thursday, another impassioned protest song about societal ills. On the three-minute, self-produced track, Macklemore opines, “The world’s on fire, we don’t own the water y’all,” a literal commentary on the LA wildfires and a metaphorical evaluation of class disparity.
Elsewhere on the horn-driven track, the rapper provides commentary on the Trump administration, Elon Musk’s Naziesque salute, and ICE’s rampant deportation efforts in America. He also again speaks on the calamities in Palestine, Sudan, and Congo. “If you still haven’t said shit about the genocide / Know your grandkids one day are gonna ask you why,” he rhymes.
The video starts with a title card with esteemed socialist Eugene V. Debs’ quote that, “The most heroic quote in all languages is ‘Revolution.’” “Fucked Up” is a followup to “Hind’s Hall” and “Hind’s Hall 2,” a pair of pro-Palestine songs Macklemore released last year. All proceeds from “Fucked Up” will go to UN agency UNRWA USA, which provides relief to Palestinian refugees.
