Jessica Alba’s 2026 Halloween costume didn’t appear to land with everyone.

“Happy Halloween from Tonya … and Nancy,” Alba, 45, captioned a since-deleted Sunday, November 1, Instagram carousel that showed her dressed as former competitive figure skater Nancy Kerrigan with a faux bloodied bandage around her knee. Standing beside Alba was a friend dressed as Kerrigan’s former skating rival Tonya Harding while holding a baseball bat.

The combined costumes referenced the 1994 attack on Kerrigan, 57, who was struck at the knee with a police baton by a man who was involved in a plan hatched by the ex-husband of Harding, 55. Harding eventually admitted to overhearing her ex’s plan but was never criminally convicted of any involvement. She was issued a lifetime ban from the U.S. Figure Skating Association as a result.

“Immature. We expect better, Jessica,” wrote one person in Alba’s post’s comments section, while another person wrote, “Why would you want to revisit this traumatic moment that ended people’s careers?”

Us has reached out to representatives for Alba for comment.

Other social media users noted that they didn’t see the harm in Alba’s costume, sharing praise for her and her friends’ creativity. “Brilliant costumes,” wrote one person, while another left clapping-hand emojis and another shared a crying-laughter face emoji.

Alba wore the costume to Vas J Morgan and Michael Braun’s “Hockey Horror” celebrity-studded Halloween party, staged in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 31. Photos shared by Deuxmoi via its Instagram account on Sunday included a snap of the Honest Company founder posing for photos on the ice amid a string of stars who joined in the celebrations.

Paul Wesley attended with wife Natalie Kuckenburg, donning a Jason Voorhees costume in a nod to the Friday the 13th franchise, while Brooks Nadar went as a seductive “fembot” from the Austin Powers film series. Other celebrities included Paris Hilton, Machine Gun Kelly, Salma Hayek and Natasha Lyonne.

Alba’s portrayal of Harding comes after the former athlete prepares to return to figure skating. One day prior to the Halloween party, she said in an interview with KOIN 6, an Oregon CBS affiliate, that she can’t “walk away” from the sport despite her ban.

On Saturday, December 12, she is scheduled to take part in “Tonya and Friends” in Vancouver, Washington, where she will skate for the public at Mountain View Ice Arena.

Per reporting on her interview by People on Saturday, Harding told KOIN 6, “I just want people to come out and have fun and be able to enjoy a real skating show.”
