‘I’m a stylist – this haircut is flattering on everyone’

As the new year approaches, many women will be thinking of getting a hair transformation.

A makeover signals a new beginning and is often very exciting.

However, not all face shapes are created equally, with certain styles perfectly framing some but ruining others.

Fortunately, one particular style has been hailed as the ultimate cut as it is known to suit most face shapes.

“It’s flattering on absolutely everyone,” says Bobby Collier, hair stylist at Larry King.

According to the popular stylist, the bob is the ultimate hair cut that suits most and is described as a perennial style.

“That’s why I think it’s such a nice haircut. It’s low maintenance and works with all hair types,” added Mr Collier.

But before you run out and chop all your hair off to get the latest haircut, there are a few things to consider before going for the bob.

If opting for the bob haircut you don’t always have to go for an ultra-short cut. 

Mr Collier explains: “A bob can sit anywhere in the gap between your jawline and shoulders. It just needs to have that swing.”

Hair experts will all agree that a person’s face shape is an integral factor when choosing different styles.

Those with certain iterations tend to favour bob cuts but for those with a round face, it’s all about texture. 

A textured bob is favoured by Mr Collier for round-face individuals with a style that includes a flick that can be waved with some face-framing layers “to close off the face”.

Heart-shaped or oval-face individuals should choose the quintessential French bob that’s cut above the jawline. 

Mr Collier explains: “This will work well with a grown-out fringe à la Sabrina Carpenter.”

He added: “Someone with a square-shaped face shouldn’t go for a chin-length cut as this will only accentuate their strong, angular jawline.”

Those with a diamond-shaped face can rock a more sharp, angled bob which matches up with the jawline and is more structured with individuals with a rectangular face opting for a longer bob without the fringe as it may make them look “too boxy”.

Mr Collier offers advice for styling the bob and says: “Obviously, if you’re going for more of a chic French bob look, it’s best to do it straight. But I like a bob with texture and movement, like a soft wave.

As for maintenance for your new bob haircut, Mr Collier suggests that “you’ll need to get it trimmed every six weeks to maintain the shape and length”.
