Sunny Hostin Calls Out Stars Dishonest About Plastic Surgery

The View cohost Sunny Hostin wants celebrities to keep it real when it comes to cosmetic procedures.

“If someone looks at you and you look different, you look refreshed, I think it’s appropriate, as a public figure, to say, ‘This is what I did,’” Hostin, 57, shared on the Monday, March 23, episode of the “Behind the Table” podcast. “What’s the big deal? What’s with the secret? You look better.”

While chatting with The View’s executive producer Brian Teta, Hostin praised The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Denise Richards for opening up about her recent facelift surgery. She even shared before-and-after pictures of her face via Instagram.

When Teta, 49, pointed out that some high-profile guests come on The View and it’s clear “stuff has happened,” Hostin replied, “They’ve denied it. Often. But it’s obvious that it’s been done!”

As for why some celebs don’t want to kiss and tell about plastic surgery, Hostin has her own theory.

“I think sometimes people don’t want to be honest about it because you’re going to be judged,” she shared. “But you’re going to be judged anyway. I don’t care as much about the judgment. I think some people are pretty sensitive about it. I think you should just be honest about it.”

Back in the summer of 2022, Hostin underwent a breast reduction and lift, as well as liposuction, after years of struggling with back pain and body-image issues.

“It was a health decision and a self-care decision,” she told People in January 2023. “I thought I would feel shame, like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m doing plastic surgery like all these crazy celebrities.’ But I don’t feel shame at all. And I hope sharing my story will help more people. If they’re feeling so body-conscious, the way I was — they can do what they need to do to feel better.”

While Hostin acknowledged that plastic surgery isn’t always glamorous — she hired a private nurse to assist during her two-week recovery — she hopes viewers realize that there’s often more than what meets the eye with your favorite celebrities.

“I look through magazines and Instagram accounts. I always believed, ‘Oh, they must be clean eating.’ No, they’re not — a lot of them are taking something, or they’re getting plastic surgery,” she said. “It’s their decision to keep it private, but I wanted to be really honest. And I’m so happy.”
