Miley Cyrus Went to the 2025 Oscars To Pitch Her Songwriting Talents

Miley Cyrus has been on a roll writing and recording original songs for movies in recent years. Apparently, the success has come from Cyrus pitching herself to filmmakers.
In a new interview with People, Cyrus shared that she was selected to create “Beautiful That Way” for Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl and “Dream as One” James Cameron‘s Avatar: Fire and Ash because she was bold enough to ask. Cyrus said she approached Cameron at the 2024 D23 Expo, where they were both honored as Disney Legends.
“I kind of throw it out there as I always do,” Cyrus said of asking Cameron to collaborate. “I already knew the answer to, ‘So what have you been up to?’ I know he’s been up to Avatar for a very long time.” She recalled saying, “Just lemme know if you ever need any music,” adding, “It just kind of organically happened. James actually calls us ‘Legends in law.’”
The origin of “Beautiful That Way” was similar. “I did the same thing to Jamie Lee Curtis,” Cyrus said. “That’s how I ended up doing Last Showgirl and now being a part of Avatar.”
She added, “Literally, that’s why I went to the Oscars this year. Everybody that came up and introduced themselves, I said, ‘Well, if you need any music, I’m around.’”
Cyrus said she has pitched the creators of Baby Reindeer, even though a second season has not been confirmed. “I don’t know what I would write for Baby Reindeer season two, but I threw that out there,” she noted.
Cyrus co-wrote and co-produced “Dream as One” with Andrew Wyatt and Mark Ronson. “Writing this song with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt came straight from the heart,” she shared on X. “Every lyric remembers where we’ve been, reflects where we are, and holds hope for what’s ahead for all of us. It was an honor to create something so personal for a film that connects so deeply with people around the world.”
The singer was nominated for a Golden Globe for “Beautiful That Way” in 2024. Cyrus co-wrote the song with Lykke Li and Wyatt, who also produced and arranged the track. “This song is devoted to the film and focused on the story Gia and Pam are telling,” Cyrus shared, per Variety. “The lyrics really resonate with me personally but sonically this song is a love letter to their project.”
