Morrissey Cancels Upcoming Shows Due to ‘Credible Threat’ on His Life

English singer-songwriter Morrissey is cancelling his upcoming concerts this weekend due to a “credible threat on his life.” A post on his official Instagram page notes, “In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life. Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and audience, tonight’s engagement at Foxwoods has been cancelled. We appreciate your understanding.”

The official Instagram account for Boston’s MGM Music Hall, where he was set to perform tomorrow, released a similar statement, noting, “In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life. Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both the artist and band, tomorrow’s engagement at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway has been cancelled.” 

The former member of The Smiths is at the outset of his NUDE tour, and most recently played a date on September 16 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall without incident. 

The cancellation comes weeks after 26-year-old Ottawa man Noah Castellano was arrested and charged with threats to cause death or bodily harm for threatening Morrissey on the social app Blue Sky. On September 4, Castellano, under an account entitled “guy who gets shot in the head one hundred thousand times a day,” posted, “Steven Patrick Morrissey when you perform at TD Place here in Ottawa next week on the evening of September 12th, 2025 at about 9pm, I will be present at the venue in the audience and I will attempt to shoot you many times and kill you with a very large gun that I own illegally.”

Despite the threat, Morrissey went on to perform at Ottawa’s CityFolk festival. Castellano posted $5,000 bail and is currently mandated to live at the Washington, DC area home of his father. When Canadian outlet Ottawa Citizen asked if he had any comments on the charge, he replied, “I’m not interested.”

It is unclear if Morrissey received more threats or if the cancellation came out of an abundance of caution due to the already circulated social media posts.

MGM Music Hall notes that “all tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase.”
