Maren Morris’ Social Media Clapbacks: Brittany Aldean Feud, More
Standing her ground. Maren Morris is no stranger to receiving online criticism about her appearance, her parenting skills or even her career, but she’s not letting that get her down.
“If it’s confusing to you, it’s because you think we’re ‘fighting’ over politics. We’re not. This isn’t political,” the “Middle” songstress tweeted in August 2022, shortly after calling out Brittany Aldean’s alleged transphobia. “We’re calling someone out for being transphobic and thinking it’s hilarious. It isn’t.”
Morris made headlines several hours earlier after she criticized Jason Aldean’s wife over her controversial message comparing growing out of a “tomboy” phase to gender transitions.
“I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life🤎✌🏼,” the blogger — who wed the Georgia native in 2015 — captioned an Instagram beauty tutorial.
After both Morris and Cassadee Pope slammed Brittany’s remarks, the boutique owner doubled down on her position.
“Advocating for the genital mutilation of children under the disguise of love and calling it ‘gender-affirming care’ is one of the worst evils,” the YouTube personality claimed in an Instagram Story statement at the time, tagging Pope’s account. “I will always support my children and do what I can to protect their innocence. The other day, [my son] Memphis wanted to be a dinosaur and tomorrow [my daughter] Navy will want to be a cat, they’re children.”
She continued: “Some parents want to be accepted by society so badly that they’re willing to make life-altering decisions for their children who aren’t old enough to fully comprehend the consequences of those actions. Love is protecting your child until they are mature enough as an adult to make their own life decisions.”
Brittany then shaded Morris’ involvement, nicknaming her “Karen Morris.” The “Bones” songstress didn’t take that shade lying down.
“You know, I’m glad she didn’t become a boy either because we really don’t need another a[ss]–hole dude in the world,” Morris wrote via Instagram comment after Pope proclaimed that they had gotten under Brittany’s skin. “Sucks when Karens try to hide their homophobia/transphobia behind their ‘protectiveness of the children.’ Weren’t they putting their kids in ‘[President Joe] Biden-is-a-pedo’ shirts on social media? Sounds like a real safe way to protect them from millions of eyes! … F–k all the way off to Insurrection Barbie and the fellow IB’s trolling this comment section with their hypocritical, hateful asses.”
Ryan Hurd — who married Morris in 2018 — had his wife’s back, noting via Twitter that he’s “so proud” of her advocacy efforts.
“Getting a lot of people telling me our career is over, as if the last time she spoke up about something it disappeared. Honestly, we’re pretty OK over here,” he tweeted at the time. “Tours are good, got a 2-year-old we love, we’re f—king fine and I promise she isn’t going to shut up now.”
Morris’ social media feud with Brittany is hardly the first time she’s spoken up amid social media criticism.
“She doesn’t need anybody to come in and help her out, but I just felt like sometimes Mama needs to know that I’m watching,” the “To a T” crooner exclusively told Us Weekly in August 2020 of his wife, noting she can handle herself. “She took [her first mom-shaming incident after son Hayes’ birth] really hard because that was such a weird situation and blown massively out of proportion. When people see somebody getting attacked, they sort of pile on because they think it’s safe. It’s just weird.”

In November 2022, the country crooner suggested to “Make DJ gay again” after Candace Cameron Bure, who portrayed DJ Tanner on Full House and its subsequent reboot, made controversial remarks about leaving Hallmark Channel to tell more “faith-based” stories about “traditional marriage.”
“It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie,” Morris tweeted in August 2022, likening Brittany’s blonde hair to a Barbie doll while referring to the January 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol.
After the political commentator defended Brittany’s position, Morris replied. “Oh my god, not you. My Grammy is positively sobbing right now. Also, why do y’all always go to ‘castration’ and ‘pedophiles’ to try and shut an argument down? It’s honestly concerning and worth looking into.”
Owens then claimed Morris sounded like a teenager whining on TikTok, urging her to “grow up.”
Morris tweeted: “Don’t you force your housekeeper to wear a shirt that covers her butt when she’s cleaning because you’re so deeply insecure about a cute girl being in your home? That’s not even childish, you are just f–king WEIRD.”
After a social media user noted that she didn’t like how Morris wore sheer pants that exposed her butt, the singer clapped back. “When there’s a Karen, there’s a typo,” she tweeted in July 2022, noting the Instagram troll had spelled “lose” incorrectly.
In 2019, Morris modeled for a topless Playboy photo shoot. While she was proud of the final product, critics still sent hate several years later.
“RESPECT 4 MOM BOOBZ,” the Texas native wrote via Instagram comment in March 2022. “I see this kind of comment a lot on country music accounts at me, soooooo GET OVER IT. Letting all the prudes know women in country music own their sexuality too.”
“Screw you @MarenMorris!” a social media user tweeted in December 2020 after Morris questioned the circumstances of singer Charley Pride’s death. “How dare you even think about jumping to conclusions at a time like this!! You’ve lost a fan in me.”
She succinctly replied, “Love you” with a waving emoji.
“Dude, I just went through a pregnancy and we’re in the middle of a quarantine,” Morris wrote via Instagram comment in April 2020 after being accused of getting plastic surgery. “The Botox has long worn off.”
Morris was criticized on Instagram in July 2020 for lounging on a pool float with Hayes while drinking.
“Honestly, I get so many criticisms of my motherhood on anything I post of Hayes, so I may just discontinue posting photos of him. Sucks but it’s kind of where I’m at,” she tweeted at the time. “I mean, we talked about curbing posting photos anyway now that he’s a little bit older, but the added crap from (mostly other moms) folks definitely forced our hand.”
A social media user criticized Morris’ appearancence in July 2020, writing via Instagram, “Wavy hair as the camera is only on your tits. Yes it’s distasteful for sure. Come on if your caption reads wavy hair maybe keep the focus on the hair, or perhaps make the caption big boobs? Just saying like holy cow. Everything in this world doesn’t make sense anymore, clearly these littles don’t have much to look up to either.”
The singer shut them down with a simple reply: “Girl BYE. Don’t let my boobs knock you on the way out.”
After Tucker Carlson referred to Morris as a “fake country music singer” who attacked Brittany over her beliefs, his FOX News show labelled her as a “lunatic country music person” instead of listing her name.
Morris poked fun at the dig, which inspired a new line of merchandise on her website. The collection of shirts, which feature the same messaging as Carlson’s dig, have raised more than $100,000 for the Trans Lifeline and GLAAD’s Transgender Media Program.
After Fox News labeled Morris as a “lunatic country music person” amid her feud with Brittany, the “Circles Around This Town” singer reshared a Halloween costume with the same moniker. The fake Spirit Halloween getup comes with a tambourine, “inclusive fans,” a pickle ball paddle and “beef with transphobes” to denote her hobbies and past clapbacks.
