Kelly Clarkson Covers Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’ on ‘Kellyoke’

Kelly Clarkson continued to show Chappell Roan a whole lot of love with a “Kellyoke” cover of “Pink Pony Club” on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Clarkson and her band — the wonderfully dubbed My Band Y’all — delivered a faithful take on the Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess favorite, injecting it with some extra live rock energy. That all came through, especially on the drums, the delirious guitar solo, and Clarkson’s always stellar vocals.
After the performance, Clarkson took a moment to celebrate Roan’s recent success, saying, “I am so excited for Chappell, who was nominated for six Grammys a couple of weeks ago. So amazing.”
“Pink Pony Club” marks the second Roan song that Clarkson has covered on her show in recent months. Back in September, she and guest Miranda Lambert delivered a stripped-down duet of “Good Luck, Babe!” accompanied by only an acoustic guitar.
Clarkson and Lambert are far from the only artists who’ve covered Roan during her break-out year. Country musicians, in particular, have really taken a shine to her music, with Kacey Musgraves covering “Pink Pony Club” during her tour this summer, while artists like Caylee Hammack, Kaitlin Butts, Silverado, and Josiah and the Bonnevilles have all shared renditions of “Good Luck, Babe!”
Sabrina Carpenter also covered “Good Luck, Babe!” during a visit to the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge back in June. And just a few weeks ago, “Weird Al” Yankovic and Will Forte performed “Hot to Go!” at Jason Sudeikis’ annual Thundergong! benefit concert in Kansas City.
As for Roan, her banner (if sometimes tumultuous) year was capped off with those six aforementioned Grammy nominations. Most notably, she’ll compete in the four big categories: Album of the Year (Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess), Record and Song of the Year (“Good Luck, Babe!”), and Best New Artist.
