Megan Moroney and Riley Green are both taking country music by storm — but it’s their rumored romantic relationship that fans can’t stop talking about. So what really happened between the pair?

“Megan and Riley were seeing each other for about three months last summer,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly.

The musicians’ relationship “didn’t end on bad terms,” per the insider, who notes Moroney, 28, and Green, 37, were in “similar spots at the time” of their brief romance.

“Neither of them wanted anything too serious,” the source says, adding that both of their careers keep them busy.

According to the insider, “Riley likes to keep his fans guessing about his love life because it keeps them talking [about him].” (He has also sparked dating speculation with duet partner Ella Langley in recent years, but both have denied they are anything more than friends.)

Moroney, for her part, has been “linked to a bunch of guys” throughout her career, but the source tells Us, “The truth is she is really always working.”

The “Tennessee Orange” singer doesn’t have much time for a boyfriend. “She works her tail off, and that’s what she’s focused on,” the insider adds of Moroney.

Green’s love life has been making headlines since 2024 when he was rumored to be dating Langley, 26, and later Moroney.

Green and Langley raised eyebrows over their chemistry after working together on “You Look Like You Love Me” and “Don’t Mind If I Do” in 2024.

In December of that year, Green denied he and Langley were a couple, telling Nick Viall, “Ella’s probably too smart to date me anyway.”

Langley also shut down the rumors in September 2024, telling Taste of Country, “We’re not dating. We’re just good friends.”

Moroney and Green fueled their own relationship fodder after she replaced Langley for a November 2024 live performance of the “Don’t Mind If I Do” duet.

In January 2025, fans were convinced that Moroney and Green were on vacation together in St. Bart’s after they shared similar shark photos via Instagram.

Other fans claimed that Moroney’s vacation recap on Instagram included a clue about her time with Green: in the form of a mystery man’s hand in the frame when she caught a fish.

In a video shared via TikTok, an eagle-eyed fan claimed that Moroney was later spotted wearing Green’s cowboy hat. Plus, there is the now-viral picture showing Green wearing sunglasses on a beach vacation that appeared to show a woman’s reflection, which he deleted and reposted without the glare. (Moroney is rumored to be the woman in glasses.)

Green, however, claimed in March 2025 that he is still on the market. During an appearance on the “In the Blind” podcast, the “Worst Way” singer said he was “single.” When asked “how single” he is, Green replied, “Pretty damn.”

During the 2025 CMA Awards Green’s alleged love triangle with Moroney and Langley was thrust back in the spotlight. After Green and Langley won an award for their duet “You Look Like You Love Me,” the cameras panned to Moroney in the audience, hinting that their alleged entanglement.

Moroney insisted at the time that boys were the last thing on her mind. “I’m not dating right now at all. I’m too busy,” she told People in November 2025.

While both Moroney and Green have insisted on separate occasions that they are single, it hasn’t stopped fans from speculation about their dynamic or whether Moroney’s new album has songs about their connection.

One song in particular off the forthcoming album, Cloud 9, called “Wish I Didn’t” refers to a romance gone wrong, which many fans speculate is about Green.

“You’ve got a hell of a reputation / So here I am patiently waiting / For that other shoe… or should I say boot to drop,” Moroney sings on her new track. “I’ve heard all of the horror stories / Your graveyard of girls before me / If you play dirty, how do I say this? / Hell hath no fury.”

Despite fan theories connecting Green to the lyrics, the source tells Us, “Megan has dated a few ‘bad boys’, so the song could really be about any or all of them.”
