Ingrid Andress admits being drunk during off-key national anthem and says she’s going to rehab | US News

A US country singer has apologised and admitted she was drunk when she performed an off-key version of the national anthem.
Ingrid Andress’s rendition at a baseball game was widely panned and drew gasps from the crowd after one particularly shaky high note.
She was opening the show at Monday’s Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas, and it didn’t take long for people to express their shock on social media.
“I’m so sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life,” said Sports Illustrated writer Alex Carr on X.
“When your Mom lied to you and said you were a great singer,” said a top comment on YouTube.
The 32-year-old was quick to apologise, posting on Instagram: “I’m not gonna bullshit y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.
“That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let you know how rehab is, I hear it’s super fun.”
Andress is a four-time Grammy winner and made her name writing songs for other artists, such as Girl In The Mirror by Bebe Rexha, and Boys by Charli XCX.
The Nashville native’s debut album was released in 2020 and breakthrough single More Hearts Than Mine peaked at number 30 in the US charts.

She’s not the only singer to be mocked for their rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at sporting events.
Roseanne Barr’s comedic attempt at a 1990 baseball game is notorious, while Fergie’s unconventional version at the 2018 NBA All-Star game was also panned.
