Dylan O’Brien’s Sibling Julz Claims They Haven’t Spoken in Over a Year

Dylan O’Brien’s sibling Julz O’Brien is weighing in on the actor’s claims about their bond.

More than one year after Dylan’s interview with Vulture, where he discussed having a “trans non-binary” sibling, the Gay Times Instagram account recapped the article while sharing a picture of the sibling duo hugging.

“I’m actually trans masc and go by he/they pronouns 🫶🏼😌,” Julz wrote in the comments section of the Thursday, May 1, post, adding in another comment, “Kinda funny that this article didn’t ask me a single thing about myself? It’s about me and uses my photo. I’m not even tagged.”

In another comment, one user claimed that Dylan’s alleged girlfriend is “homophobic” and “racist,” to which Julz replied, “He also hasn’t spoken to me in over a year. He didn’t check in when I had top surgery. He didn’t even wish me a happy bday last week! But glad I could deepen his experience in this world and make the world love him that much more 😏.”

In the January 2024 interview with Vulture, Dylan, now 33, opened up about how having queer people in his life informed his performance in the movie Ponyboi. (Dylan played Vinny in the film, which premiered at Sundance in 2024 and is set to hit theaters on June 27.)

“I have a trans, nonbinary sibling,” Dylan said. “I know people in my personal life as well who are queer and I am so grateful for how much it deepens my experience in this world.”

While reflecting on the movie, Dylan said in a January 2024 interview with Adobe that he was “extremely uneducated on intersex and the intersex community” heading into the project. “This was such an enlightening experience for me, and they are someone I hold so dearly now, that I’ll have with me for the rest of my life as a friend,” he said of Gallo.

Before Julz’s comments, Dylan was featured in an August 2022 Instagram photo on their account in honor of his birthday.

“Happy Birthday, Dyl!!” Julz captioned the post at the time, which included a series of snaps of the siblings embracing. “Love you so much 🎉💥🕺🏼🍻🥳🤙🏼.”

Months later, Julz also shared two photos with Dylan and their mom, Lisa O’Brien, in a carousel to celebrate her birthday. Julz captioned the Instagram upload in February 2023, “Happy Birthday to my gorgeous Mama!! 🥂🥳.”
