Chris Brown Granted $6.7 Bail on Alleged Nightclub Attack Charge

Chris Brown was granted a $6.7 million bail after he was charged last week in an alleged London nightclub attack in February 2023, with a British judge also allowing the singer to continue on his previously scheduled European tour as long as bail conditions are met.
Following Brown’s arrest in Manchester, England on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm last week, a British judge initially ruled that the singer be held without bail due to the “extremely serious” allegation that Brown beat music producer Amadou “Abe” Diaw with a tequila bottle and then stomped on him, resulting in a hospitalization and, later, a $16 million lawsuit.
Brown remained in custody in Salford until Wednesday morning, when a judge granted bail as long as Brown posted £4 million ($5.4 million) immediately, followed by an additional £1 million ($1.3 million) within seven days.
Brown was not present at the bail hearing and has not yet entered a plea on the charges. The next hearing in the case was set for June 20; the hearing was originally scheduled for June 13, but Brown had a concert in Frankfurt, Germany, scheduled for that day. The new hearing on June 20 falls between Brown’s European tour stops in the U.K. Brown’s tour is scheduled to begin June 8 in Amsterdam.
As part of his bail conditions, Brown was ordered to surrender his passport (except when touring), reside at a specific address known to the court, and neither contact Diaw nor visit the London nightclub where the alleged assault took place, the BBC reports.
In October 2023, Diaw filed a $16 million lawsuit against Brown, accusing the singer of “beating him over the head” with a tequila bottle and “ruthlessly” stomping on him when they were both at a London nightclub the previous February.
Diaw’s lawsuit also claimed that he “inflicted severe and lasting injuries” from the attack, including “lacerations on his head and torn ligaments in his leg,” and that he suffered “serious and permanent emotional distress and trauma” following the attack.
This past weekend, rapper and Brown associate HoodyBaby was also arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent for the February 2023 attack.
