Bon Iver and filmmaker John Wilson have teamed up to create the ultimate expression of kind vibes, with the latter delivering a delightfully charming new music video for the former’s new single, “Everything Is Peaceful Love.”

The track is classic Bon Iver — an inventive and lush pop gem full of ebullient joy and serenity: “And damn if I’m not climbing up a tree, right now” Justin Vernon croons, reaching higher into his falsetto, “And everything is peaceful love and right in me.”

In a statement, Vernon said “Everything Is Peaceful Love” set the tone for his new album, SABLE, fABLE, adding “I always knew that would be the feeling I wanted to share first.” To that end, he wanted the music video to “just be people smiling uncontainably,” and upon the suggestion of artist Eric Timothy Carlson, he reached out Wilson to direct it.

Vernon called Wilson’s celebrated old show How To With John Wilson “the most poignant and hilarious program in all of television,” and the filmmaker brings that exact same energy to the “Everything Is Peaceful Love” clip. Like How To, the visual comprises footage Wilson shot out in the world and then edited together — a collage of funny animals and big-hearted interactions, interspersed with some of Wilson’s more bizarro finds (the last 30 seconds is what appears to be a man gazing at an old episode of The Daily Show with a giant grin plastered across his face).

“It gives me what I want for this album, all in one video,” Vernon said. “The idea that happiness and joy are the highest form and the true buoyancy of survival, and even taking yourself less seriously could heal the world.”

Bon Iver announced SABLE, fABLE earlier this week, and the album is set to arrive April 11. It marks Bon Iver’s first full-length effort since 2019’s I,I, though the group previewed half of the LP with last year’s Sable EP (all four tracks from that project will appear on disc one of the full album).

“If SABLE, was the prologue, then fABLE is the book — but together, SABLE, fABLE is the album, and for that reason it is no fairy tale,” Vernon said upon announcing hte album. “There may be something undeniably healing about infatuation, and the intense clarity, focus, honesty and celebration it brings to these songs.”
