Duchess Sophie caused a stir among royal watchers on Sunday as she stepped out in a striking red ensemble while attending a service marking 80 years since the United Nation’s first meeting. The Duchess of Edinburgh joined dignitaries at Methodist Central Hall in Westminster, choosing a bold look that immediately drew comparisons to Princess Catherine’s in another recent power dressing moment. 

The appearance marked one of Sophie’s, 60, most confident fashion moments of the year so far, with the senior royal opting for rich colour, sharp tailoring and polished accessories that collectively came in at around £2,800. It was a decisive departure from her typically understated palette and signalled a clear embrace of statement dressing for a high-profile occasion.

Sophie’s outfit centred on a vivid red midi dress from royal favourite, Beulah London, featuring a fluid silhouette. 

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, fans hailed the look. One user penned: “Her Royal Highness looks absolutely stunning, simply GORGEOUS!”

The Duchess’s appearance echoed that of Princess Catherine, who had stepped out just days earlier in a head-to-toe red Alexander McQueen suit while meeting members of the England Women’s rugby team at Windsor Castle. 

Catherine’s, 44, look, defined by sharp tailoring and tonal accessories, was widely praised as one of her strongest power-dressing moments of the season.

Sophie’s decision to adopt a similar colour story so soon after did not go unnoticed.
