Lily Allen’s ‘West End Girl’ May Become a Play in London’s West End

Lily Allen stopped by The Tonight Show to promote her upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live and took the opportunity to reveal some future plans for her new album West End Girl.

After telling host Jimmy Fallon how she wrote and recorded the album in 10 days last year, Fallon noted, “In London, they’re trying to make West End Girl into a play.”

“That’s true,” Allen confirmed. “Are you involved with that?” Fallon asked.

“I might be,” Allen replied, mysteriously. “The ink is not dry—is that what they say? Something like that? But, you know, I’m definitely having some conversations with people about it. It’s very exciting.”

Although Allen didn’t reveal any details, Allen has a recent history in London’s West End. In the album’s opening track, she sings about being offered a role in a play without auditioning. The lyrics may reference Allen’s 2021 stage debut in 2:22 A Ghost Story at the Noël Coward Theatre in London. The play was directed by Matthew Dunster and earned Allen a nomination for the Olivier Awards for Best Actress. Earlier this year, Allan also starred in Dunster’s modern reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, which was staged in Bath, England.

Allen also discussed her upcoming sold-out West End Girl tour, which kicks off March 2 in Glasgow. “That’s why I came here, to sell tickets to my tour, but it’s sold out today,” she said. The North American leg of the tour begins April 3 at Chicago’s the Auditorium and spans nine gigs, concluding April 28 at San Francisco’s The Masonic.

The concerts, dubbed “Lily Allen Performs West End Girl,” will find the British singer doing just that, performing her latest album in its entirety, in the same order as they appear on West End Girl.

West End Girl appeared as Number 33 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Best Albums of 2025. “Rolling Stone declared Lily Allen’s West End Girl the ‘most brutal album of the year,’ due to its masterful portrayal of modern love and loss amid revelations of butt plugs, condoms, and a husband who is quite possibly a sex addict — all set against honeyed pop scores,” Rolling Stone wrote of the LP for our Best Albums of 2025 list. 

“Here we find Allen, nearly 20 years after her debut, Alright, Still, delivering her most ruthless music yet, an odyssey of betrayal and heartbreak, a work where musical storytelling is laid out in its barest and sharpest form.”
