Karol G Reveals ‘Papasito’ Behind-the-Scenes Video

From the choreography to the costumes, the singer reveals how the electric video was made
Karol G brings fans behind the scenes of her “Papasito” music video.
The track is part of her latest album Tropicoqueta, which dropped last month, and features Karol blending English and Spanish as she sings of trying to win an American man’s heart. The video reflects the lyrics and captures Karol daydreaming that she is a Latina vedette smitten by a lover, played by Danny Ramirez.
In a 15-minute clip showing how the video for “Papasito” was created, Karol highlights nearly every facet that went into making the color-popping footage. From the vibrant set to the dazzling choreography to the folks behind the camera, fans are invited to learn about what went into bringing the video to life. The behind-the-scenes look includes interviews with director Pedro Artola, choreographer Danielle Polanco (who’s captured in a scene telling a group of dancers: “Everyone’s capable, that’s why we’re here. … Let’s live up to our potential”), set designer Nicholas Des Jardins, hair stylist Cesar Ramirez, and more. The BTS also includes a sweet moment of Karol reacting to her mother Martha Navarro, who makes a cameo, in full costume.
“The visual narrative of Tropicoqueta is inspired by the Latina vedettes from many years ago, who were criticized a lot because they used their bodies to put on a show,” Karol said in a previous interview with Rolling Stone. “They went out and gave it their all, no matter what they had to do, whether it was be nude, whether they had to dance, whatever it was. They did it with so much passion and so much soul because it was the only time they had to be seen and appreciated. Tropicoqueta is a tribute to all of them.”
