Jack White, Eddie Vedder ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ in Tokyo: Watch

Pearl Jam frontman’s surprise appearance took place during White’s encore in Tokyo on Saturday
Jack White’s fans at his show at Toyosu PIT in Tokyo on Saturday were treated to a surprise performance by Eddie Vedder.
During White’s encore, which included the White Stripes songs “Hypnotize” and “Seven Nation Army,” White launched into Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” with his band. White delivered the first verse before the Pearl Jam frontman surprised fans when he sauntered on the stage to join in during the first chorus. At one point during the performance, Vedder freestyled with lyrics that included “There’s only one Jack White.”
Both artists have covered the Young classic multiple times over the years, separately and together. Last month, White delivered a rendition to close out SNL50: The Homecoming Concert at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. In September, Pearl Jam performed the song at their Madison Square Garden show, with Steven Van Zandt, Glen Hansard, and producer Andrew Watt joining the band for the song.
White wraps up his tour dates in Japan with a second show in Tokyo on March 17 before he embarks on another North American tour in support of his latest album, No Name. The run launches in St. Louis on April 3.
Meanwhile, Vedder’s surprise appearance at White’s show might have something to do with the Chicago Cubs, who are in the midst of playing exhibition games at the Tokyo Dome. Vedder is a longtime fan of the Cubs and frequently attends their games in the Windy City, so it would not be a surprise if he shows up to their games in Tokyo. On the baseball tip, Vedder has also lent his name to the Vedder Cup, which the Mariners and Padres will compete for every year beginning this year in May, in a partnership with Vedder’s charity that supports Epidermolysis Bullosa research.
Pearl Jam will hit the road for a string of 2025 North American tour dates beginning on April 24 at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida.
