After Teddi Mellencamp’s shocking divorce announcement on Saturday, November 2, her husband’s recent Instagram post is drawing second looks.
One week before the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum’s Instagram post, which noted that she’d made the decision to file for divorce after 13 years of marriage, her husband, Edwin Arroyave, posted an Instagram carousel of the pair at the Cure Melanoma Gala in New York City.
“I always say life and pain are inseparable,” he wrote in the caption on the October 25 post, alongside several photos and videos of the two, one of them showing the couple kissing.
“To see @teddimellencamp embrace her pain and use it for the greater good again last night as she emceed the @curemelanoma gala, was a beautiful reminder of what she is capable of,” he continued.
Mellencamp, who emceed the event, has had 16 melanoma surgeries.
Arroyave also wrote that “her story has already saved lives. And I couldn’t be prouder that she will continue to save more. Love you, Teds.”
This proves a stark contrast from Mellencamp’s announcement on Saturday.
“After a great deal of care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce,” she wrote in a photo posted to her account. “My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter.”
Mellencamp continued by saying that she didn’t want to make a public statement, “but in an effort to protect my family from undue speculation and rumors, I felt being open, honest and vulnerable was the best path forward.”
Mellencamp, whose father is famed musician John Mellencamp, married Arroyave in 2011. The two have three children together: Slate, Dove and Cruz. Arroyave also has another child from a previous relationship, Isabella.
The former Real Housewives star was on the show during seasons 8, 9 and 10. During that time, her relationship with Arroyave was on the rocks, seeing them almost separate.
On an episode of her podcast, “Two Ts in a Pod,” she opened up about their tumultuous time together on the show. “When we first started, I remember my first day honestly it was like ‘F—, at what point do I tell everybody that I’m getting a divorce? Like when do I do this?,” she said. “We are at our worst absolute phase, because truthfully, for us, it was really about a power struggle.”
She continued, “We were always kind of equals when we were together. I rode horses, I was competitive and I was all these things. Then I couldn’t get pregnant naturally, I did all these IVFs. Then, all of a sudden, he was in charge of our finances, and I had never been that. I never not had my own money, I had been working since I was 17. Then I just started hating him.”
