Choosing the best haircut to complement your features is only one element of picking a new hairstyle.

It’s fairly common to get stuck in a rut with the haircut you go for – and now it could be a time for a good change.

While some people might feel apprehensive when they visit the hairdressers, especially when some hairdressers seem too happy to keep chopping away, a new haircut could make you look youthful.

A dramatic overhaul isn’t mandatory for those aiming to attain a fresher look, but it can be pivotal in covering up grey hairs or complementing the natural slimming of one’s facial contours as we age.

Top hairstylist Justin Hickox recommended one style that is above the rest when it comes to making someone look younger.

On his YouTube channel, Justin said he has worked with “thousands of clients” who have all loved a “timeless” cut, such as the layered bob.

Justin explained: “Clients love it because it’s flattering… people who wear it look more youthful, and the style is timeless!”

Boasting nearly three decades of hairdressing and with a clientele comprising of 85 percent women, most of whom are over the age of 40, Justin knows what looks good.

Going into specifics, Justin distinguished between a “bob” and a “layered bob”, stating that the layers “play a huge role in why this is so effective and why women over 40 love this”.

He noted that the layered bob remains “timeless” and “never goes out of style”. But that’s not the only option for mature women who are hoping to look younger with a new haircut.

Topping his list is the versatile long, layered cut, challenging the conventional wisdom that short haircuts are the sole flattering option for ageing women.

Describing this option as a “really solid option”, the layers provide movement and texture.

Whichever haircut you go for, Justin emphasised the importance of using pictures when communicating your desired haircut to a hairdresser.
