FKA Twigs Announces New Album ‘EUSEXUA’

The musician will reveal more about the record — her first full-length since 2019’s Magdalene — on Sept. 13
What is EUSEXUA? The title of FKA Twigs‘ upcoming full-length studio album isn’t a word that can be found in the pages of any dictionary. But the musician has laid out the full definition of the term in an artsy teaser trailer ahead of the record’s release, seemingly scheduled for Sept. 13.
Eu-sex-ua, pronounced /yo͞oˈ seks yo͞oˈ ä/, is an adjective used to describe an all-consuming, euphoric emotion. “Eusexua is like a feeling of ‘I’m that bitch,’” one person in the album trailer explains. The minute-long clip is a montage of eccentric, model-like figures exploring their own definition of the Twigs term. “Eusexua takes over who you are,” another adds. Someone else likens the feeling to “shimmering rose petals on my skin,” while others explain how Eusexua can be a shared emotional experience.
“Have you experienced EUSEXUA?” Twigs asked on social media while announcing the record. “Discover September 13.” A time stamp on the musician’s official website reads: “05:00:00, 14.09.24, London.” She previously previewed the record during a listening party in New York City.
EUSEXUA marks the first full-length album release from Twigs since 2019’s Magdalene and follows the release of her 2022 mixtape Caprisongs. Her musical return comes after she scrapped dozens of songs that were leaked last year. “I got hacked, somebody leaked 85 of my demos,” she wrote on Instagram Stories in October. “Well done, no new music for a while now.”
Just as Twigs was starting over, she relocated to Prague and discovered a goldmine of inspiration for what has since become EUSEXUA. “I moved to Prague a couple summers ago, fell in love with techno,” she wrote on Discord earlier this year. “The album isn’t techno but the spirit is there.” Twigs described the tone of the record as “deep but not sad,” adding: “I’m not sad anymore.”
