Liam Gallagher fuels Oasis reunion speculation – with a rumoured record-breaking stint at Wembley | Ents & Arts News
Liam Gallagher continues to fuel rumours of an Oasis reunion, writing on X: “I never did like that word FORMER.”
Industry insiders are adamant next summer will be the return of the biggest band in Brit-pop, telling the Sunday Times Wembley Stadium is booked for 10 nights, smashing Taylor Swift’s eight-gig record set earlier this month.
When The Times tweeted about it, Liam appeared to confirm shows were planned, telling a user on X: “See you down the front”.
Glastonbury will also be hoping to lure the bickering brothers to the pyramid stage, with a headline slot open to them – if they decide to go for it.
It would be the first time the pair have appeared on the same stage since 2009. It was backstage in Paris that Liam damaged one of his elder brother’s guitars and caused Noel to dramatically quit, ending a partnership that had rocketed them to fame and fortune.
“It is with some sadness and great relief…I quit Oasis tonight,” Noel later said in a statement. “People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”
The remaining band members continued for five more years, under the name Beady Eye and Liam since enjoyed success with his own band, particularly his recent tour which involved performing songs from Oasis’s debut album, Definitely Maybe, released in 1994.
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds has its own sizeable fan base, headlining festivals, including the Isle of Wight, in recent years.
Glastonbury bosses may find it difficult to persuade Noel to return though. He regularly attends as a fan and was there this year, but he says it has changed in recent years.
He said: ‘It’s getting a bit woke now, that place, and a bit kind of preachy and a bit virtue-signalling. I don’t like it in music – little f***ing idiots waving flags around and making political statements and bands taking the stage and saying, ‘Hey guys, isn’t war terrible, yeah? Let’s all boo war. F*** the Tories man’, and all that.
“It’s like, look – play your f***ing tunes and get off.’
Sky News has contacted representatives for Noel and Liam.
